One of nine specialised cleft units in England...

Sarum Ward

SDH Central, Salisbury District Hospital, Salisbury

Parents may visit the ward at anytime. Others may visit between 8am to 8pm.

Brothers and sisters are welcome but must be supervised. We would prefer all children under the age of 16 to be accompanied.

Staying on the ward

All children under the age of 1 year have a single cubicle in which to stay. Each cubicle has a parent/carer bed and a television/ radio/ telephone unit. The television is free but a phone card is required for the telephone..

For children over 1 year old there is an allocated bed space on the ward. These areas have armchairs that recline into a parent/carer bed.

Your child may like to bring in a favourite toy/blanket etc. This is fine but please make sure it is labelled with his/her name.

You will need to bring in nappies and toiletries for your child.

Food and drink

We do have some ready made formula milks (but not all varieties) so please contact us to make sure we have what you need, if not you will need to bring in your own milk powder.

We have some baby jar foods but if your baby has any favourites then it is a good idea to bring them in.

There is also a daily menu, which your child can order from.

Facilities for parents

There is a parents' kitchen with toaster, microwave and fridge and there are tea/ coffee-making facilities. We have a supply of thermos mugs with lids for your use.

There is a parents' sitting room adjacent to the ward.

There is a parents' shower room/ toilet, so if staying you will need toiletries for yourself.

Canteen facilities are available at the hospital where you may buy meals. If you are staying on the ward you will be given a ticket to enable you to get cheaper meals.

Car parking is available on the hospital site in the Pay and Display car parks. The ward can provide you with a form to enable you to purchase a weekly ticket form the hospital main entrance at a reduced rate.

All staff realise how stressful being in hospital is for you and your family. Please ask your child's nurse any questions you may have and he/ she will endeavour to help you. Our aim is to work with you to do the best we can for your child.
