Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist
I lead a team of clinical nurse specialists across the Spires Cleft region. I am a qualified children and adult nurse and have a BSc Hons in Child Health Nursing. I have worked in numerous clinical settings in London including being Senior Sister at the Cleft and Craniofacial Unit at Great Ormond Street. I was appointed as the first CNS at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and established the CNS role into the cleft team and developed pathways of care. I was appointed Lead CNS in 2004 for the Spires Cleft team and I am based in Salisbury. I have both a managerial and clinical role within the team. I also have a strategic role attending professional meetings with the other clinicians to ensure best practice.
I am particularly interested in the role of the clinical nurse specialist and ensuring there is appropriate training, education and succession in to the role in all teams in the UK. In my clinical role I am currently a co-opted researcher for Slumbrs11 – a study led by Professor Iain Bruce on sleeping positions for babies born with a cleft.
I have had numerous roles in the National Clinical Excellence network and I am currently the Chair of the Lead CNS group. I am extremely proud to have been elected as President of the Craniofacial Society of Great Britain and NI for 2022.
