Paediatric Combined Cleft clinic

This clinic is primarily for patients who are preparing for, or have recently had, an alveolar bone graft (an operation which repairs a cleft of the gum with a little piece of hip bone).

The timing of the operation can vary between individuals depending on their dental growth. Typically we invite people to this clinic between the ages of 7 -11.

What to expect

The surgeon and orthodontist will need to look in your child’s mouth as they sit in the dental chair. Depending on the stage they are at, they may require an x-ray of their teeth. This is much like having an x-ray at the dentists.

The speech and language therapist will often have a chat with your child in order to listen to their speech clarity.

The clinical psychologist will talk to you and your child about you are feeling about the operation. The clinical nurse specialist will give you information about the operation and aftercare.
