Extended Team clinic

Sometimes it is important to discuss your child’s needs within a wider team, particularly if we are planning to do an operation and your child has additional health needs. This is what the Extended Team clinic is for.

What to expect

There will typically be quite a few professionals in this clinic. They are all here to discuss treatment options and agree a plan together with you as your child’s parent / guardian.

It might be helpful to bring along any relevant recent reports / assessments from other professionals. If you have any questions, it is helpful to write these down before the appointment and bring them with you to make sure you have the opportunity for us to address your queries.

We will need to have a look inside your baby’s mouth. Although children often cry, this doesn’t hurt them. We will help you position them comfortably. Often it is best to hold your baby facing you with their feet at your stomach. You can then lie your baby down with their head on the surgeon’s lap. This gives us a good view of their mouth and palate.

The paediatrician will need to hold your child to carry out various assessments. We may also weigh your baby at this clinic.
