Matt Fell

I am the nationally appointed Cleft Lip and Palate Training Interface Group (TIG) Fellow for 2023/2024. I am excited and honoured to base my fellowship at the Spires Cleft Centre and be a part of this team.

I qualified from Manchester University Medical School in 2011 and completed my Plastic Surgery training in Exeter and Bristol within the South West Deanery. I undertook specialist Cleft and Craniofacial training at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, in 2022.

I am interested in the use of big data to gain an understanding of the causes and outcomes in cleft with a view to the design of bespoke care pathways. I trained for a year as a research fellow with the Cleft Collective at the University of Bristol and I look forward to building further collaborative research opportunities.

Being able to contribute to cleft care in low resource settings is extremely important to me and I am currently a Trustee for the CLEFT charity (www.cleft.org.uk) and have an advisory role for Transforming Faces (www.transformingfaces.org).
