National Cleft Speech Prosthetics Consensus Meeting held at Spires Oxford

Consultants in Restorative Dentistry and their dental technicians gathered at the John Radcliffe Hospital to drive forward standards of care with the aim of reaching a consensus on how to manage this complex cohort of patients.

We were thrilled that virtually every cleft centre in the UK was represented at this clinical meeting – as it was held in the multidisciplinary clinic we were limited to 25 clinicians which was quite a challenge!

A number of Spires patients with cleft lip and palate treated at Spires kindly attended the event to share their stories and challenges with the delegates; this made the day unique and especially valuable for those clinicians present. The meeting focused on the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in treating these patients, with the aim being to share best practice from around the UK and to set standards for clinical practice. A second meeting is planned towards the end of this year – so watch this space!
