Did you know that up to 20% of babies nationally have a delayed diagnosis of cleft palate? Delayed diagnosis is the term we use when a cleft palate has been diagnosed later than 24 hours after the birth of the baby. Jane, who is one of our cleft advanced nurse practitioners, lead on a project in collaboration with the National Cleft Nurses Clinical Excellence Network (CEN) Innovation and Evidence-based practice group, to produce a poster for all clinicians involved with newborns. This is especially for those conducting the Newborn Initial Physical Examination (NIPE) to educate them on the early diagnosis of cleft palate. This poster is especially useful for educating any clinician that is involved in infant feeding and tongue-tie practitioners.
