The 9th Annual Oxford Global Surgery Course was held at Kellogg College, Oxford, from the 9-13th September 2024.
The aim of the Oxford University Global Surgery Group is to work with partners around the world to support and build capacity for safe, high quality surgical care for underserved populations worldwide.
The vision is for safe surgery to be accessible to all.
Professor Ashok Handa chaired the session on ‘Working together developing cooperative partnerships’ within which Marc Swan presented on ‘Strategic partnerships’ through the lens of his overseas cleft work largely in sub-Saharan Africa and the Indian subcontinent.
Global cleft surgery has evolved hugely in recent years with the novel approach of charities such as CLEFT being to develop sustainable methods to support local teams so that children born with orofacial clefts in lower income countries will have the same opportunities of having quality cleft care as those in the UK.
