Helen Travess

I am a consultant in orthodontics and joined the Spires cleft team in 2023.

I qualified in dentistry in 1995 from Guys Hospital in London, and in Orthodontics from Bristol University in 2002. After further training in Oxford and UCL, London I became a consultant in Buckinghamshire in 2006. I continue to provide specialist care there for part of my working week. I am committed to training our future orthodontists through training and examining. I have been a key member of our national orthodontic society throughout my career, most recently serving as the chair of the consultant group. My research focusses on patient experience of care. My masters degree developed a tool looking at the patient experience of surgical jaw correction.

I am excited to return to the Spires cleft centre in Oxford and join the team to provide both dental advice and liaison with general dentists for our patients with a cleft, as well as specialist orthodontic care (braces) through liaison with our regional hospital departments and directly in Oxford and Bucks.

I enjoy working with colleagues in other specialties to ensure holistic care for all our patients, working closely to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients.
