I worked for eleven years as a community pharmacist before moving into library and information work, completing a post-graduate diploma in Information Management in 2004. I have been an indexer and editor for the British Nursing Index (BNI), and have worked in university, public and school libraries before becoming a librarian at Salisbury Hospital in 2011.
I have been working with the Spires Cleft Centre since 2014. As their clinical librarian I attend meetings and find evidence-based information to support the clinical work of the multidisciplinary team. I do this by thoroughly searching medical databases to find the best research evidence to answer questions from the clinicians. This helps them to develop the cleft service, undertake focused research, and improve the care and experience of patients. I keep the team up to date with the latest evidence by creating monthly bulletins that summarise new research and articles about caring for people born with a cleft lip and/or palate. I train staff on how to search for information and help keep the Spires Cleft Centre website current by updating the staff publications page.
