Ian Downie

I trained as a dentist in Liverpool. I moved south and, after working in Southampton and Salisbury, went to medical school in Southampton and graduated in 1981. I trained in general surgery before completing specialty training in oral and maxillofacial surgery on the South Coast Training Programme. I have been fortunate to spend time in the United States and India during my training. I was appointed to a consultant post in Salisbury in 2002.

For ten years I had a very broad based practice including head and neck cancer, facial trauma and deformity. In recent years I have been concentrating more on facial deformity surgery. I have been privileged to be working with the Spires Cleft team for three years. My main involvement is undertaking orthognathic surgery for the whole of the Spires Cleft service. We have established a clinic in Newbury where I see patients, together with colleagues in Speech and Language, Psychology and Orthodontics. I do all my operating in Salisbury where we have a great team looking after patients and their families.
